KUPO OPTICAL KNOWLEDGE

Optics development watch

A technical briefing reviewed on 17 September 2026.

This briefing highlights active development directions and explains their relevance to optical selection. It is a dated editorial review, not a live news feed or a claim that every referenced technology is a KUPO product.

01

Tandem photovoltaics

Recent research programs continue to develop perovskite/silicon tandem devices. Their layered spectral response brings attention to spectral balance during characterization. For simulator developers, the practical question is how the source and optics deliver the required distribution at the test plane, not only the integrated output.

02

SWIR machine vision

Visible-to-short-wave infrared imaging is being applied to tasks such as material discrimination and semiconductor inspection. Components must be selected as a system: a sensor’s spectral reach alone does not establish the transmission of the lens, window or filter.

03

Engineering takeaway

Specify the wavelength interval that matters to the measurement, obtain data over that interval, and validate the assembled optical path. For emerging applications, record assumptions separately from verified sample results so the design can evolve without losing traceability.
