A useful brief explains the optical result you need and the system in which the filter must achieve it. This gives the development team a practical basis for selecting a standard design or proposing a custom coating.
01
Define the optical function
State which wavelengths should pass, reflect or be rejected, along with transmission or blocking limits. Include the source and detector where applicable. Distinguish a desired example curve from the limits required for acceptance.
02
Define the environment and interface
Provide working angle, angular spread, polarization, thermal conditions and mounting details. Specify substrate, dimensions, thickness and clear aperture where already decided; identify what remains open to design.
03
Develop and measure
Prototype evaluation checks the component and its behavior in the system. Agree the measurement method, sampling conditions and interpretation of any differences before moving toward production.
04
For procurement and engineering
Keep the drawing, coating specification, revision, inspection method and agreed acceptance criteria together. A source change or optical-layout revision may require a new evaluation even when the external dimensions remain unchanged.
